Introduction
The aim of this report is to show what sort of impact law and technology has had on various aspects
such as my learning, the skills I’ve obtain in development and the obstacles I had to jump over during
this module which is ICT Project Management in Practice. A model of reflection tends to be the
process to guide the act of reflection in an organised procedure. So therefore, there isn’t such a
thing as the right model, the selection of the model is based on whether it makes you feel
comfortable and assists you learn from your experience. Reflective models come in different types
such as the Graham Gibbs Model, the David Schon model as well the David Kolb model.
The Graham Gibbs model tends to consist of six phases: Description, Feeling, Evaluation, Analysis,
Conclusion, and Action Plan. Whereas the Donald Schon model tends to make the user use a
thinking mechanism where a reflection is provided in action and a reflection is provided on action,
which tends to involve looking at our experiences whilst we connect to our feelings and attend to
the theories that are in use. The David Kolb model tends to ask for a reflection based on experiential
learning whilst using these for steps (What happened, what was my experience of it, why did it
happen? Is there any research that might deepen my understanding, what will I do when it/if
happens again?). After analysing the three taught reflective models that one that I decide to choose
is the Graham Gibbs model because I feel it is best fit to paint a clean picture on my learning process
that I had to go through for this module and the project and it gives me the tendency to be able to
reflect on what I have learned and how can this knowledge be implemented into the career that
stands in front of me
Graham Gibbs Reflective Model
Description
As being a computer science student, we have minimal contact with students from other courses in
terms of academic purposes, but this module gave us the opportunity to work in a team with
students from different courses which gives a breath of fresh air as we tend to learn new material
from their respective course. It gave me the opportunity to work on a project on real-time basis
where we were supposed to develop, design, test and deploy a working project for a real client
whilst we make sure
we imply all the acquired legislations that are present within the law, to gain a complete
understanding of how to ensure the security of the user and the company during the development
of the application. The project that my group was assigned was to design a tool that allows
individuals to gauge their eligibility to bring their claim for unfair dismissal. The tool will act as a
screening process for those not eligible to bring a claim for unfair dismissal. The tool will offer
information on other potential claims that the person might be able to bring, as well as offering links
to pages offering information that is related.
Feelings
The mindset at the start of the project was worrying because due to unforeseen circumstances I
couldn’t meet the team for a large amount of time and put me at a disadvantage as I did not have a
say on what was to be done. But once I meet the team leader, everything started to become much
clearer as I started to have a better idea on what the team had created and what I was supposed to
do to help the team from this point on. I would like to thank my teammates as they were supportive
during this whole process and were patient with me and gave me all the support that was required
which enabled me to do as much work as possible during my free time. During this project, the
methods of communications that we implemented were quite effective as we used messaging
applications such as WhatsApp and conversed with the client via emails. We also shared our
documents with each other with the help of Google Drive which makes it easier for everyone in the
team to access the information even if they are based in remote locations. Doing this gave us the
opportunity to be up to date with all the meetings and gain a clear consciousness on what we were
supposed to do for each step. I am pleased with the fact that I had such a wonderful team that gave
me their helping hand during the worst of times which gave us the opportunity to drive the project
in the right direction and complete all the essential objectives.
Evaluation
Evaluation of the experience whilst carrying out this project is essential due to the fact that in future
projects you could use this project as an example and not make the same mistakes that were made
in this project. During Evaluation, it is important that you evaluate the positive and the negative
aspects of the experience you had whilst carrying out the project. The positive aspects during this
project was that the performance of each of the group member, I wasn’t familiar with any of the
members, but it would be safe to say that every single one of them exceeded my levels of
expectation. The team worked in a stupendous manner where everyone’s level of contribution was
so high that we were able to complete some tasks way before the deadlines we assigned ourselves
which gave us the opportunity to create the tool much better than the expectations of the client.
The negative part was the problems that the members had to face due to my absence. This turned
out to be a positive aspect as they took it in the stride and completed all the tasks within the
respective deadlines. From this experience, it would be safe to say that time management is very
important when you face unforeseen circumstances and you need to still be able to accomplish the
required task working within the team.
Analysis
Analysis of the project is essential so that it gives you the tendency to understand how much you
have accomplished and the cost that you had to pay whilst do so and seeing whether you were
efficient with it or no. The process models that were taught during the module acted as a guide
which enabled us to implement the strategy in a way that combined the software development
project with law. During this experience, we were to find the best way to combine both these fields
and being able to design the tool using the approach that was deemed appropriate. The first part of
the project was important due to the fact where we had to define all the requirements, the designs,
the implementation phase, the integration phase and how to carry out the required test on the tool.
All the tasks were reviewed by the client every single week where it was important for the approval
of the client as his satisfaction is important for the progression of the project. I could say that it was
a quality experience where the knowledge gained could be implanted into future projects.
Conclusion
The conclusion for this reflection report is the amount of experience I gained carrying out the project
within the module. I was able to apply all the information that was provided to use in form of
lectures and seminars into the project that the team and I were working. The experience that I
gained from this project was exceptional due to the fact that I had a taste of how it feels to work
under pressure and extremely tight timelines. Another thing that was practiced and became better
with was the Agile Method as we already used it in earlier reports, but I was able to carry it out with
the team in an even smoother manner. This experience helped me obtain the ability to deal with
unforeseen problems and absorb the principles of how to manage a project with different personnel
from different types of field who all contributed in a successfully in this project
